Simle Middle School Physical Education
For 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades
Course Descriptions
6-7-8 PE: Activities may include: badminton, soccer, football, softball, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, hockey, physical fitness, running, eclipse ball, frisbee golf, archery, game day activities, Olympic Activities and aerobics. All activities are subject to change.
6 Fitness: Have fun while learning to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Students will be introduced to a variety of group and individual exercise programs and activities through a combination of physical activity and classroom instruction. This course will cover the basics of physical fitness (cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength/endurance), as well as teaching students lifetime activities.
7 Body Management: Components of this class include exercise programs (including circuit training, jogging/walking, and other strong cardio activities), self-image, self-esteem, nutrition/nutrients, menu planning and sport conditioning. There will be classroom education and physical activities.
8 Exploring Weight Lifting: Students will begin to learn proper weight training techniques and safety rules. Programs will be provided to teach students how proper weight training can be a beneficial lifetime activity. Some aerobic activities will be included with the lifting program. This class will also begin to explore basic human anatomy and muscle functions.
Class Expectations
STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO:
- Actively participate in all aspects of the class
- Do their Personal Best
- Demonstrate positive attitudes and sportsmanlike behavior
- Be dressed appropriately
- Treat teachers, students, and equipment with respect
Dress Requirements
1) All students are required to wear the district physical education t-shirt. They can be purchased for $5.
Modifications made to the t-shirt will not be allowed.
2) Proper gym shoes are required. They must be able to tie tight completely. No boots, slip-ons or sandals
3) Sweatshirts and sweatpants are allowed for outdoor activities. No Jeans! Be prepared for chilly weather.
4) Simle has a dress code and it will be required in Physical Education:
Gentlemen: make sure that your shorts are pulled up and are covering your boxers.
Ladies: need to have athletic shorts (Ex. basketball style). Ladies are NOT allowed to wear short cheer/Soffe or running shorts. Other shorts will be provided for them to change into.
5) Clothes worn during school (i.e. basketball shorts/sweatpants) will not be worn during physical education.
Students wearing the same clothes will be considered “not dressed” for the day. Use proper hygiene.
6) Students will be given 5 minutes before and after class to get ready. Jewelry is a safety issue and should be
removed before class. Long hair should also be pulled back.
Grading
All Grades: Standards Based Grading (SBG) - Respect, Responsibility, and PE Standards per grade level.
Procedures and Options for Make-ups
If you have missed class for reasons that are NOT school related, you must complete a 45 minute workout of continuous movement on your own time, outside of school. A parent signature verifying your activity is required in order to receive credit. If a teacher has reason to believe that a signature or form is forged, credit will not be given and parents will be notified.
*School related excuses include: Sports, Band, Choir, Student Council, SADD, and other school clubs.
Medical Restrictions
Any student with a medical restriction (asthmatic, diabetic, knee problems, epi pen, etc.) needs to be brought to the instructor’s attention immediately.
Medical Excuses
A note from a parent is NOT considered a medical excuse and will not excuse you from loss of grade for non-participation. Please see us if you have a problem or recent injury or ailment that would affect your participation. Please stop by and see us before class begins so we can modify your curriculum if necessary. A doctor’s written excuse is required for being exempt from activities.
Locker Room Security
Be sure to lock your locker at all times. WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS LOST OR STOLEN IN THE LOCKER ROOM. There will be a $3 replacement fee for any lost locks.
